Pre-recorded 30 minutes: The focus of this session will be on critical teacher dispositions to prepare teacher candidates to affirm diverse student identities in the secondary English Language Arts classroom. Participants will experience a session that encourages questions and facilitates learning about best practices for implementing a social justice framework in educator preparation programs (EPPs) and a model for moving beyond a safe space into an affirming and supportive environment. Specifically, this session centers LGBTQ+ youth and teacher dispositions to address racism, homophobia, sexism, and intersectional microaggressions in the secondary classroom in order to affirm diverse student identities including gender expression, sexual orientation, and race and ethnicity.
