The focus of this session will be on providing teachers with a framework for queering their secondary language arts classroom. In order to unearth the joys and challenges of this work, we will discuss sharing pronouns, integrating a queer perspective into daily instruction, teaching a unit on queer theory, and incorporating queer literature. To begin, I will discuss the overall context of my classroom, sharing pronouns, building and growing an LGBTQ-inclusive environment on a daily basis, teaching queer theory, and incorporating queer literature. Finally, participants will have a chance to dig into my materials, talk with each other, and develop and share their own materials. Participants will have access to all of my classroom materials, including a unit on queer theory. They also will have a list of queer literature.
